Understanding Your BMR and TDEE

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns at rest to maintain vital functions like breathing, circulation, and cell production. The calculated BMR is based on the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation, which is considered one of the most accurate methods for estimating BMR.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is an estimate of how many calories you burn per day when exercise is taken into account. It's calculated by multiplying your BMR by an activity factor:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR x 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise 1-3 days/week): BMR x 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise 3-5 days/week): BMR x 1.55
  • Very active (hard exercise 6-7 days/week): BMR x 1.725
  • Extra active (very hard exercise & physical job): BMR x 1.9

Remember, these are estimates. Your actual BMR and TDEE may vary based on factors like body composition, genetics, and specific health conditions. For personalized advice, consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian.
