Understanding the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10)
The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) is a 10-item questionnaire intended to yield a global measure of distress based on questions about anxiety and depressive symptoms that a person has experienced in the most recent 4-week period.
Scoring Guide:
- Scores under 20 are likely to be well
- Scores 20-24 are likely to have a mild mental disorder
- Scores 25-29 are likely to have a moderate mental disorder
- Scores 30 and over are likely to have a severe mental disorder
Important Note: This scale is a screening tool and not a diagnostic instrument. A high score on the K10 does not necessarily mean that you have a mental health disorder. Conversely, a low score does not guarantee the absence of mental health issues.
If you are concerned about your mental health or the results of this scale, please consult with a qualified mental health professional for a proper evaluation and guidance.
